The Family Affairs Council held a seminar on “Divorce” The Family Affairs Council recently held a seminar on the phenomenon of divorce in Saudi society, with the participation of a group of counselors and experts in the field of family and marital counseling. The seminar discussed the magnitude of the issue, the most prominent factors leading to divorce, and the appropriate solutions. The symposium addressed several key topics, the most important of which were: The most prominent issues that lead to divorce, the developments that the Kingdom has witnessed in recent years in terms of judicial systems and their implications on the family and social level, and the economic empowerment of women and its impact on family stability, both positively and negatively.

The seminar also touched on the extent of awareness of community members in seeking counseling from specialists, the possibility of this young generation of spouses using the help of reformers from the elders in the family or other trusted people, and the role of the media with its various means of influence on all levels, including the topic of divorce, about which the media has created a great movement as a societal issue, with the possibility of investing all available media in creating a positive movement to address and confront issues by raising awareness for all segments of society. The Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Hala bint Mazeed Al-Tuwaijri, explained that the holding of this seminar comes within the framework of the Council’s keenness to actively engage in all national efforts to address the issues and challenges facing the family in all its components and limit its developmental role at the level of its surroundings, society and country, including the topic of “divorce”.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri stressed that the Council is working on studying and assessing the magnitude of this issue, identifying its causes and confronting them, developing solutions to reduce divorce rates, spreading social awareness to confront its causes, providing psychological, societal and economic support to divorced women, raising awareness of its effects such as family disintegration and other negative effects, in addition to contributing to promoting all values and behaviors that contribute to the success of marital life, the absence of which can lead to divorce.
