The League of Arab States, represented by the “Social Affairs Sector and the Department of Women, Family, and Childhood,” held an extraordinary virtual meeting of the Arab Women Committee at the ministerial level on June 17, 2020. The session, chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia addressed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women and girls and discussed strategies to mitigate the consequences of the crisis.

Ministers, policymakers, and representatives from regional and international organizations participated in the meeting and shared experiences and innovative practices implemented across member states. The meeting emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and showcased national initiatives and policies aimed at supporting women and girls during the pandemic while strengthening resilience to future crises.
