Chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Labor and Social Development: The Family Affairs Council holds its seventh session and discusses the annual report for 2019. The Family Affairs Council held its seventh session today, Thursday, chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Labor and Social Development, Chairman of the Family Affairs Council, Eng. Ahmed bin Suleiman Al-Rajhi, and attended by the Secretary-General, Dr. Hala bint Mazid Al-Tuwaijri, and all members, at the ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh. The session began with an opening speech by His Excellency the Minister Al-Rajhi, in which he welcomed the members, noting the importance of concerted efforts during the next stage to enable the Council to achieve its goals and aspirations in caring for and empowering the Saudi family. This was followed by a presentation of the topics included on the agenda by the Secretary-General of the Council, the most prominent of which was the presentation of the annual report for the past year, which included all the work, achievements and initiatives that the Council worked on during 2019. The Council then reviewed the family strategy and what it included in terms of goals and initiatives concerned with the Saudi family with all its members, and a presentation of the “You Are Classy” initiative, which the Council worked on in partnership with a number of governmental and civil entities and the third sector, aiming to establish values and morals and enrich knowledge and behavior by implementing a competition targeting male and female students and their families. The Council then reviewed the Memorandum of Understanding concluded by the Council with the Social Development Bank to launch a project incubator aimed at empowering women in the labor market by supporting medium and small projects. In another topic, the Council approved the formation of the Advisory Committee for Children and approved its procedural guide. The Council then reviewed the recommendations of the discussion panel in which the Council participated with several entities that provide services to the elderly. The topic was “Reducing Negative Practices towards the Elderly” and two reports on the Saudi Family Forum and the Arab-Chinese Women’s Forum and the recommendations emanating from them, in addition to reviewing and approving the Council’s media strategy. At the end of the session, the Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, thanked His Excellency the President and the Council members for their interaction with all the topics raised, and their constructive suggestions and opinions, stressing the great support that the Saudi family receives from the rulers – may God protect them – and this is clearly evident through the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 and what it includes in terms of goals and programs that directly contribute to empowering the Saudi family and improving the quality of life.
