Saudi Arabia’s Presidency of the UN Commission on the Status of Women CSW69

For the first time, Saudi Arabia chaired the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations at its 69th session (CSW69), which was held from March 10-21, 2025 in New York.

Extraordinary course

The Kingdom’s presidency coincided with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a plan of action aimed at empowering women and achieving gender equality.

Chaired follow-up discussions on progress in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in member states. Co-organized 3 high-level side events and an accompanying exhibition highlighting women’s empowerment since its inception. The session concluded with a political declaration and a declaration of the Commission’s priorities for the next five years.

Chairing the ministerial table session

Her Excellency the Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council chaired the ministerial table session and delivered the Kingdom’s speech.

About CSW

A specialized committee on the promotion of women’s rights to document the reality of women’s empowerment around the world, as well as to make policies and shape global standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The committee meets annually in March to assess the progress of member states, share best practices and experiences in the international community, and submit recommendations and reports each year to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations.
