Saudi Arabia will participate in the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67), scheduled to take place in New York from March 6 to 17, 2023. The Saudi delegation will be led by the Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Maimoonah bint Khalil Al-Khalil. The session will have as the priority theme: “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.” Additionally, the session will have as the review theme “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-second session).”
The delegation included Dr. Lana bint Saeed and Ms. Al-Anoud Al-Haniwi, representing the Family Affairs Council; Ms. Shurooq Al-Quwaie, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Advisor Dr. Maha Al-Dhahi, representing the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture; Dr. Haya Al-Muqoushi, representing the National Cybersecurity Authority; Ms. Farah Abalkhail, representing the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; Dr. Fatimah Baothman, representing the nonprofit sector; and Ms. Doha Badiwi, representing the youth category through the Salam for Cultural Communication Program.
As part of its participation in CSW67, Saudi Arabia will host a side event titled “Digital Transformation and Innovation: From Inclusion to Sustainability” on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The event will showcase the Kingdom’s intiatives in empowering women through innovation, technological change, and education in the digital age. It will also highlight the nonprofit sector’s efforts to leverage artificial intelligence in supporting women, alongside initiatives aimed at empowering Saudi youth to lead the digital transformation.
Dr. Maimoonah Al-Khalil, Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council, emphasized that this global forum presents a valuable opportunity to share the Kingdom’s accomplishments in empowering women within the frameworks of the Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2030. She further noted that Saudi Arabia’s delegation will highlight the progress made in addressing this session’s priority theme of innovation and technological change. Dr. Al-Khalil underscored that the Kingdom’s initiatives focus on bridging the gender gap by expanding opportunities for women and ensuring their active engagement in the digital transformation process, both locally and internationally. These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to empowering women across all sectors.
