The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the International Conference on Care Economy and Social Protection “A Pillar for Women’s Empowerment, Job Creation and Family Well-being”, which was held in the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rabat, at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University from 25-26 June 2024, organized by the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family and in partnership with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
The Kingdom’s delegation to the conference was headed by Her Excellency the Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Maimouna bint Khalil Al Khalil, and included a group of specialists from relevant authorities. The conference aimed to create opportunities and engage in the process of building an integrated system for the care economy through the exchange of Arab and international experiences and knowledge about this important sector, and to develop a set of answers that contribute to addressing challenges and enriching the debate, especially with regard to identifying economic activities that fall under the care economy and its actual contribution in creating job opportunities that enhance the economic empowerment of women.
During the conference, Her Excellency the Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council delivered the Kingdom’s speech during the Ministerial Roundtable, noting that the care economy is a key pillar for promoting the well-being of individuals, family cohesion and supporting community integration, and the Kingdom’s care services system is characterized by diversity, breadth and continuous development, and the Kingdom supports the care economy in its various fields.
Her Excellency the Secretary General emphasized that the Kingdom’s care economy includes promoting gender equality in access to employment opportunities and creating new job opportunities that contribute to social cohesion, as well as providing basic services such as healthcare, education, child and elderly care, so the care economy in the Kingdom will continue to grow and develop driven by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
