The Council and UNICEF Discuss the Scope of Work of the Joint Cooperation Program

A workshop was recently held at the Family Affairs Council’s headquarters in Riyadh to discuss the scope of work for the joint cooperation program between the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the Gulf Area and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the Family Affairs Council.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Council, Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, the UNICEF Representative in the Gulf Area, Dr. Shahida Azfar, Deputy Representative Nasim Awal, and the Regional Director of UNICEF for the Middle East and North Africa, Dr. Ghassan Khalil. Also present were Council members, including Her Royal Highness Princess Lolowah Al-Faisal, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamdi representing the Ministry of Health, Dr. Amal Fatani representing the Human Rights Commission, and Ms. Ghada Al-Subaie representing the Ministry of Economy and Planning, along with other members and the Council’s team members.

Additionally, experts from UNICEF specializing in childhood development participated remotely. The discussions addressed three key priority areas: promoting early childhood development, developing the use and collection of data, enhancing national monitoring and evaluation systems, and addressing violence against children. Participants exchanged views on the implementation mechanisms for these priorities, which will be carried out under the framework of the joint cooperation program for the period 2019–2023.
