Saudi Arabia to Participate in the 65th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Represented by a delegation headed by the Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will participate in the 65th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), scheduled to take place in New York from March 15 to 26, 2021. The session will focus on promoting women’s participation in public decision-making, addressing efforts to eliminate violence against women, empowering women, and enhancing gender equality.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be represented by a delegation headed by the Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, and with participation of Chair of the Women’s Committee in the Family Affairs Council Dr. Lana bint Saeed, Representative of the Women Empowerment Agency at the Ministry of Human Resource and Social Development Dr. Hind bint Khalid Al-Zahid, and Representative of the Human Rights Commission Dr. Amaal Al-Habdan.

Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri emphasized that this global forum provides an opportunity to highlight the significant achievements in empowering Saudi women and the vital role they play in driving the Kingdom’s development across various sectors.

She explained that Saudi Vision 2030 has adopted an ambitious strategy to fully leverage the potential of women as key partners in decision-making, promote their advancement into leadership positions, and foster their active participation in society. She highlighted the commitment of the Kingdom’s leadership to safeguarding women’s achievements, empowering them economically, and strengthening their contribution to the nation’s progress.

During the session, the Saudi delegation will showcase the Kingdom’s efforts to protect women amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as initiatives under Vision 2030 aimed at financial, social, and health empowerment for women, and the job opportunities available to them, training and capacity-building programs provided through civil society organizations, and the Kingdom’s comprehensive measures to address domestic violence, ensuring protection and a safe, stable living environment for all.

The delegation will participate in a number of virtual meetings, and on March 22, 2021, Saudi Arabia will organize an event on the sidelines of these meetings.
