The meeting witnesses the declaration of Riyadh as the Arab Women’s Capital 2020

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosts the 39th meeting of the Arab Women’s Committee next Sunday The Kingdom will host, over two days, the meeting of the 39th session of the Arab Women’s Committee on 9-10 February 2020 in Riyadh under the umbrella of the League of Arab States in the presence of Their Excellencies the ministers and heads of delegations of Arab countries and national mechanisms concerned with women and delegations from Arab and international organizations, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia chairs the Arab Women’s Committee for a year and the session witnesses the declaration of Riyadh as the capital of Arab women 2020. The activities of the session begin on its first day with the holding of the preparatory regional meeting of the 64th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which reviews the results of the Beijing Regional Declaration and Platform for Action after 25 years and the Beijing Regional Declaration 25+, while the second day witnesses the official meeting of the Arab Women Committee at its thirty-ninth session to discuss a number of topics on the agenda, starting with discussing the activity report of the Secretariat General between the previous session and the current session, reviewing the 2030 sustainable development agenda and empowering women in the Arab region, in addition to following up the recommendations of the ministerial conference on “Enhancing the role of women in Arab societies – Drew

On this occasion, the Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Hala bint Mazeed Al-Tuwaijri, explained that the Kingdom’s hosting of the 39th session of the Arab Women’s Committee under the umbrella of the League of Arab States and under the slogan “Empowering Women … Developing Society” comes as part of the Kingdom’s efforts in serving Arab issues and supporting the developmental movement in all Arab societies and advancing the status of women and supporting their rights through economic and social empowerment and confirming its leading and influential role in all vital sectors, as this hosting comes as the Kingdom is witnessing many reforms related to the path of Saudi women’s empowerment in accordance with the vision of the Kingdom’s ambition. She added that this meeting will witness – God willing – the launch of Riyadh as the capital of Arab women for the year 2020 under the slogan “Women, Homeland and Ambition”, in addition to the Kingdom’s presidency of the G20 and the subsequent meetings that emphasize the international role played by the Kingdom at all levels, especially with regard to supporting and empowering women, as this role also constitutes a regional dimension in which the Kingdom participates in the international community with the most important issues that affect the participation of Arab women in development and contributes to the voice of Arab women. Al-Tuwaijri welcomed the participating Arab delegations, Their Excellencies ministers and heads of national mechanisms concerned with women, and delegations from Arab and international organizations, extending her thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince for the great interest in the guests of the meeting and the support they give to Saudi and Arab women and women globally.
