Family Affairs Council launches “Technology for All” awareness campaign

Coinciding with the International Day of Older Persons

On Friday, 24 Safar 1443 AH, corresponding to October 1, 2021 AD, the Family Affairs Council, represented by the Senior Citizens Committee, will launch an awareness campaign entitled “Technology for All” in conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons, whose theme for this year was chosen by the United Nations, “Digital Equality for All Ages”, to raise awareness of the importance of technology in their lives and promote a positive image that shows their ability to use technology, in addition to encouraging family members and friends to help and train the elderly to protect their data and deal with technology by choosing appropriate applications for them and taking the necessary measures to face the technical challenges that they face.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Ministries of Health, Housing, Communications and Information Technology, the General Organization for Social Insurance, the Radio and Television Authority, the King Salman Social Center, and the Riyadh Chamber are participating in the campaign.

The campaign includes a number of diverse events that achieve the objectives of the campaign in spreading community awareness about the issues of the elderly. It includes two dialogue sessions, the first entitled The role of the family in employing digital technology to facilitate the lives of the elderly, in which a number of specialists participate to talk about the health, social and educational aspects.
The second session will review the role of governmental institutions and private sectors in promoting digital equality in relation to the needs of the elderly, with the participation of the Ministries of Education and Communications and Information Technology, in addition to a specialized member of the elderly committee of the Family Affairs Council, which will be broadcast in a number of locations within the Kingdom in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The scope of the campaign targets various traditional media outlets such as newspapers, television and radio channels, in addition to the Council’s digital platforms and all parties participating in the campaign and those interested in social affairs, to reach the targeted community groups.

On this occasion, the Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Hala bint Mazeed Al-Tuwaijri, said that activating participation in international events related to family members and highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts locally and internationally in serving them is at the core of the Council’s work objectives stipulated in the National Family Strategy to achieve the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 by working with government and private sectors to meet the needs of the elderly in all aspects of life to reach a decent life that preserves their rights and requirements.

For her part, Ms. Huda Al-Naim, head of the Senior Citizens Committee, said that celebrating this occasion is a reminder of the value of this precious group that has provided great services to the country. She also urged this campaign to honor parents and respect and appreciate the elderly, hoping that the activities and events held in the regions and governorates of the Kingdom will achieve their objectives in increasing community awareness of the issues and needs of the elderly in the technical field.
