On Sunday, Safar 19, 1443 AH, corresponding to September 26, 2021 AD, the Family Affairs Council, represented by the Childhood Committee, launched an awareness campaign to combat bullying against children under the slogan “You have no right”, which will last for five days with the participation of the Ministries of Education, Health, and Information, in addition to the Human Rights Commission, the National Family Safety Program, the Riyadh Region Youth Council, the Council’s regional affairs committees, and voluntary teams.
The awareness campaign targets children in their surroundings and cyberspace, parents, those interested in children’s issues and educators, as it seeks to spread the culture of dealing with the issue of bullying, raise awareness of the risks, and empower ways to deal with bullying in all its forms and types, in addition to strengthening national efforts and initiatives that support child protection, contributing to the application of the best individual and institutional methods in dealing with the phenomenon, as well as strengthening partnerships between Saudi agencies and sectors in confronting this negative phenomenon.
The scope of the campaign covers various traditional media outlets such as newspapers, television and radio channels, in addition to various digital content on new media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, in cooperation with the accounts of the participating organizations. The campaign also includes a live discussion session in which members of the Childhood Advisory Committee will discuss the topics of bullying and its types, who is a bully and how to deal with it, the impact of bullying on children, the causes of bullying, and experiences and practices in dealing with bullying and bullies. The session will be broadcast on the Family Affairs Council’s social media accounts.
On this occasion, Dr. Hala bint Mazeed Al-Tuwaijri, Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council, stressed that this campaign comes in line with the National Family Strategy, which aims to achieve the Kingdom’s vision (2030) by working with families and relevant partner agencies, noting that the Council is constantly striving to raise awareness of the family and all its components in areas related to them, including those related to children and their rights. For her part, Dr. Shireen Al-Oufi – Chairperson of the Childhood Committee – explained that this campaign activates the role of the National Child Plan within the family strategy, to contribute to the development of children and monitor their needs, in cooperation with the concerned government and private entities to create a supportive environment for the needs of children that preserves their rights, primarily to protect them from all forms of violence and harm.
