Seniors Committee
Overview Article 6 of Decision No. 443, dated 20/10/1437 H, stated that the Council shall form all the necessary technical committees, provided they include a committee for the elderly comprising in its membership elderly specialists and stakeholders. The term “elderly” shall include persons above 60 years of age for both genders, regardless of their health, social or financial status. The committee shall be responsible for proposing and studying laws, regulations, plans, projects, programs and initiatives that seek to meet the requirements of the elderly, in line with the general objectives and policies of the Family Affairs Council. Vision Leadership and excellence in providing a safe and dignified life that fulfils the needs and requirements of the elderly. Mission Meeting all the needs of the elderly and providing them with a decent life, protecting their rights and fulfilling their requirements. Objectives of the Committee Following up on the implementation of the laws and legislations pertaining to the elderly and proposing possible implementation entities. Building community partnerships with sectors and individuals concerned with the elderly. Activating participation in international events pertaining to the elderly. Reviewing the most important international practices for care, rehabilitation and empowerment, and encouraging the adoption of what suits the values of the Saudi society. Highlighting the efforts made by the Kingdom – nationally and internationally – towards the service of the elderly. Activating volunteer work through partnerships with relevant bodies. Workflows of the Committee The Elderly Committee has ten main workflows compatible with the Council strategy, which seeks to achieve the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030. They also aim to activate community partnerships with the private and third sectors to contribute to social development. The workflows include: Functions of the Committee Supporting relevant field studies. Preparing reports on the efforts made by the Kingdom towards the elderly. Building a national database on the elderly. Participating in relevant national, regional and international conferences and seminars. Studying cases referred by the General Secretariat of the Family Affairs Council. Representing the General Secretariat in meetings, gatherings and activities pertaining to the committee’s tasks. Propose and study regulations and legislations related to the elderly. Identifying strategic objectives and converting them to programs and activities. Monitoring the needs of the elderly in society in accordance with social variables. Proposing and supporting pilot initiatives for the advancement of the elderly. Raising awareness regarding the rights of the elderly. Verifying that relevant public and private entities are fulfilling their roles to the end of achieving the desired objectives. Target Group Elderly men and women above 60 years of age, regardless of their health, social or financial status.
